I’m surprised Russia is so far down on that list, you’d think after Crimea they’d learn to be a little more welcoming.

I imagine the support varies with proximity to the war. In North America, genocidal civil war is more of a concept and less a thing that is happening a short flight away.

Besides all the political/cultural reasons why we do less, the US is also located far away from this.

It’s a lot easier to take in refugees when you are so close to them geographically.

Well when you absorb part of a country, and make it your own. There really isn’t any refugees.

Bingo, coming here to say basically this. When a war is not only humanitarian, but also potentially politically destabilizing to your own country , a lot more people take notice. This also goes for our delayed entry in WWII, among other things.

Also, FWIW, many charities and organizations have specifically requested funds to set up relief closer to the situation, in part to NOT displace people to many thousands away where there may not be a supportive expat/refugee community.

yup. That its as high as 66% I think is relatively positive . Granted that doesn’t necessarily translate to the politics of the day but Im actually encouraged that public sentiment is that good.

The poll is  not about convenience, it's about willingness.
